Flowers of Hope: Belgian children unite in symbolic art project for Expo 2025 Osaka
Brussels, 24 October 2024 - The Belgian pavilion at Expo 2025 in Osaka is inviting Belgian primary schools to take part in the ‘Flowers of Hope’ project. This artistic initiative brings together pupils aged 6 to 12 to create 3,000 crepe paper flowers symbolising hope and resilience. The result will be a magnificent installation, highlighting Belgian creativity and cooperation, to be exhibited at the World Expo in Osaka from 13 April to 13 October 2025.
The project invites two schools from each Belgian province to take part in this collective work, which combines the Belgian tradition of crepe paper flowers with the Japanese art of kintsugi. This fusion of cultural traditions will symbolically ‘repair’ the walls of the Belgian pavilion, just as kintsugi uses golden cracks to bring broken objects back to life. Each flower represents a personal message of hope, created by the children themselves.
Important dates :
- Applications: Schools can apply by sending a covering letter to expo2025osaka@profirst.com before 15 November 2024.
- Project implementation: Participating schools will receive a kit with all the necessary materials in November. The flowers will be collected in December.
- Installation in Osaka: The flower installation will be set up in February 2025 at the Belgian pavilion, ready to welcome visitors from all over the world.
With this initiative, we want to give a voice to the younger generation and offer them an opportunity to showcase their creativity on an international stage. We can't wait to see the schools contribute to making these flowers of hope bloom in Osaka.
