From 9 to 12 June 2025, the Belgian Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka came alive with the rich flavours, creativity, and innovation of Belgium’s food and beverage industry. The Belgian Food & Drinks Week, jointly organized by BelExpo and Fevia, celebrated Belgium’s reputation as a world leader in quality, craftsmanship, and sustainable food production.

Held within the Expo’s thematic week “Necessities of Life: Food, Clothing and Shelter,” the event presented a vibrant program of tastings, demonstrations, and seminars that explored Belgium’s expertise in nutrition, health, and sustainability. Visitors discovered everything from plant-based gastronomy to alcohol-free beverages and learned about cutting-edge traceability in the chocolate supply chain.

Belgian products, from chocolate and biscuits to beer and frozen vegetables, enjoy a stellar reputation in Japan, where “Made in Belgium” stands for quality, authenticity, and trust. Belgian chocolates and confections are especially treasured during Japan’s traditional gift-giving seasons, ochugen and oseibo.

Belgian Pavilion Commissioner General, Pieter De Crem, about the F&D Week:

“Belgian products are highly appreciated in Japan, but we must continue building on this success to expand our presence in this established market. The Belgian Food & Drinks Week is a unique platform to reinforce our commercial ties and showcase our commitment to innovation and sustainability.”

The visit of Their Royal Highnesses Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz on 9 June lent further prestige to the occasion, highlighting the importance of economic diplomacy and the enduring partnership between Belgium and Japan.

Through interactive experiences and culinary encounters, the Belgian Pavilion offered visitors a taste of what makes Belgium’s food industry so unique, a blend of heritage and innovation, pleasure and purpose. The success of the Belgian Food & Drinks Week reaffirmed Belgium’s position as a trusted partner and global reference in the art of good living.
