From July 22 to 28, 2025, the Belgian Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka hosted a selection of independent video games from Belgium’s three regions. This initiative, supported by BelExpo, highlighted the creativity and innovation of the Belgian video game industry while fitting perfectly into the thematic week “Empowering Lives – Learning and Playing.”

🎮 A Showcase of Belgian Video Game Innovation

Ten video games, selected by WALGA (Wallonia Game Developers Association) and the VAF (Flemish Audiovisual Fund), were presented to Japanese audiences. These titles spanned a variety of genres and formats, offering visitors an immersive look into Belgium’s vibrant gaming scene. Games were available on the top floor of the pavilion, allowing for hands-on interaction and playful discovery.

🌐 Reaching an International Audience

In addition to the physical exhibition, a dedicated online platform, Games Around The World, was launched. This platform allowed content creators worldwide to stream the Belgian games live, providing international visibility and encouraging cross-cultural exchange.

🎯 Aligning with the Theme Week Objectives

The “Learning and Playing” week, part of the broader “Empowering Lives” theme, explored the challenges of education and play in the era of artificial intelligence. The Belgian games demonstrated how entertainment can also be a tool for learning, creativity, and inclusion, reflecting the core goals of the thematic week.

🤝 A Fruitful Collaboration

This initiative strengthened connections between Belgium and Japan, showcasing Belgium’s excellence in creative and digital industries. It also provided Belgian game developers with an international platform to present their work, opening doors for future collaborations and business opportunities.
