All aboard to Expo 2020 Dubai!
For decades now, Dubai has been one of the most advanced cities in the world, and once again they have proven this to be true. On Wednesday the inaugural Dubai Metro train has arrived at the new Expo 2020 Station.
Did you know there will be a new metro line called the Route 2020? Route 2020, is a 15-kilometre extension to the Dubai Metro that connects Jebel Ali Station to the Expo 2020 site, passing through communities such as Discovery Gardens and Dubai Investments Park. The Expo 2020 Station can accommodate 22,000 passenger each hour.
Route 2020, or as the Emirati like to call it: ‘the journey to the future’, is the new addition to the Red Line Metro in Dubai. This line is over 52 km and goes from Rashidiya to Jebel Ali with 29 stops in-between.
The Red Line was expanded due to Expo 2020 Dubai, which will take place outside the city. We see it as an expansion of the already existing line, but in fact, the Route 2020 is a metro line on its own. When visitors take the Red Line, for example in Rashidiya, they can continue until the stop Jebel Ali and there they will need to transfer and take the Route 2020 metro.
The constructions of Route 2020 began in September 2016 and finished in May of 2020. This was meant for the start of the World Expo in October 2020, but because of the current circumstances, the Expo was delayed.
At this moment the metro line is only accessible for staff and visitors with a permission to enter the site but as of October 1st, it will be open to the public. After Expo 2020 Dubai this line won't be going to waste, as it will serve to connect both Airports with each other.
