A round table discussion on cinema

The Belgian Cinema Industry has been flourishing since the ’90s and has clearly gained international recognition. Beyond the artistic and creative aspects, Belgium has positioned itself as a production hub, attracting international projects, collaborations, and investments.  When developing the program of the Spotlight on Belgian Cinema, the idea came to take the opportunity of having key producers and film directors visiting Dubai, to discuss the Cinema production as a creative and also a financial journey.

On January 12, at 6.30 pm, at the Belgian Pavilion, cinema professionals, investors, students, and officials, will get together for a Round-table named “Cinema production in Belgium and the UAE”. The panel will be composed of three Belgian visitors: Jacques-Henri Bronckart, Olivier Masset-Depasse, and Jérôme Tellin. They have been working together for the last two decades and they are collaborating again on the next feature film LARGO WINCH III, directed by Olivier Masset-Depasse. They will share with the audience their perspectives on this ambitious project, as a producer (Jacques-Henri Bronckart), a Film Director (Olivier Masset-Depasse), and a CFO and tax shelter expert (Jerome Tellin).

The 3 Belgian panelists will be joined by Hans Fraikin, the Abu Dhabi Film and Television Commissioner. Hans is responsible for developing a world-class production centre and film friendly community in Abu Dhabi, capable of supporting productions from around the world. Hans started his career at the US film studio Twentieth Century Fox, where he distributed nearly 100 motion pictures, including Independence Day, Mrs. Doubtfire, the Full Monty, Romeo + Juliet, the Star Wars trilogy, Alien Resurrection, Anastasia and Titanic.

After an initial panel discussion, facilitated by Hassan Nasser, the four panelists will then engage with the public to discuss further their experience, their projects, and how international collaborations can be enhanced in the future, looking at the potential roles of Belgium and the UAE.
