On the occasion of Expo 2020, our partners at hub.brussels and Brussels International accompanied a delegation of a hundred Brussels companies and cultural partners led by Secretary of State Pascal Smet to Dubai in order to build Brussels’ reputation overseas and create business opportunities.
The mission highlighted the following sectors, including visits, official meetings and workshops:
• handicraft and Brussels high-quality products;
• financial services and fintech innovation;
• real estate, construction, and urban development.
Additionally, the Belgian Pavilion welcomed prestigious actors from the Brussels cultural scene to showcase the richness and creativity of Brussels culture.
Such as the Ommegang Procession: The famous Brussels grand scale traditional and historical event made an exceptional move to Dubai this week for a series of performances as part of Expo 2020 in order to showcase Brussels' heritage on the world’s scene.
Alongside the Jazz Station big band, with music dedicated to Toots Thielemans, the famous Brussels musician often praised as the best jazz-harmonica player in the world, would have turned 100 in 2022. The Jazz Station big band offered an overview of his musical career during this Brussels mission and performed in several formations to introduce the public to the richness of his jazz music. We installed a stage in front of our Belgian pavilion and treated the people visiting the Expo with the great artistry of the Jazz Station big band.
The Belgian designer, Charles Kaisin exhibited "Origami for Life” that he created to help the healthcare industry during the pandemic. The artwork is installed in the entrance hall of our Belgian pavilion, and we must say, it truly elevates the room to a whole new level of beauty. It will remain showcased in our pavilion until the end of the Expo.
